Now I am far from being an Adam Lambert fan. However I was struck by something that he was saying last night on American Idol. He seem to be very clearly sending a message to some contestants that they weren't selling their songs. He didn't use those words but would say something like "have fun with it" or "jazz it up". What does he mean when judges and mentors are saying that. "We don't believe you"! The problem is so many well intention sales people don't listen or don't understand this. I am not sure whether it's a lack of confidence or just plain fear. The problem with fear is once you give into it, your greatest fears are realized.
A lot of would be bloggers and marketers that I mentor seem to face the same type of challenges. They can't find their voice due to a lack of "having fun with it" or just plain "fear". I think they know what to say but are more afraid to say it! That is a quick ticket to getting removed from the stage. The stage of sales success. Don't be afraid! It's just like American Idol. Have fun with it and the minute you think you are looking weird, you are just starting to get our attention. What is the alternative? Forgetful and boring. I would rather look crazy.
Once again, you've nailed it! What a great thought to start my networking day! Thanks!
